Special Education

Johnson Law Group has focused much effort on the enforcement of federal and state rights to free and appropriate public education services for children with special needs. We represent individual families with questions about how best to ensure that local school districts provide individualized instruction designed to enable their children to succeed. In many cases, we work to connect families with exceptionally qualified educational and related service providers and represent families in due process proceedings under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The firm was instrumental in filing the landmark special education case, Petties et al. v. District of Columbia, et al. in 1995, and served as counsel to the plaintiff class until the case was settled in late 2012. Our team regularly represents the interests of private special education service providers, including schools and individual therapists. We deliver pro bono legal support to a leading institutional advocate for schools providing special education and related services. RESOURCES
